Winter Hobbies To Try

Thursday, 3 October 2024

Get through the winter gloom by getting stuck into some cosy pursuits.

Getting excited about trying out some new things, or picking up a hobby you've left for a while can lift some of the darkness that comes with the arrival of the colder season.

Knitting or Crochet

Whether you're a beginner or you already understand the basics, knitting and crochet are the perfect cosy winter activity. There's tons of fun and easy projects to try out and at the end of it maybe you'll have a cute scarf of some handwarmers.

Reading

This a year-round hobby obviously, but honestly when the weather is dreadful outside, there's something especially lovely about curling up with a good book and a mug of something hot.

Painting

This is a really calming and fun activity and it's ideal to brighten up dark evenings stuck indoors. I love watercolor painting but you could also try out oil or acrylics. Take out a few library books to learn the basics, or see if there are some classes near you.

Ice Skating

While this might not be accessible for everyone, ice skating is an adventurous winter activity. If there's an ice rink near you this is a memorable hobby that will keep you fit and is a much more fun than the gym.

Baking

Baking as a winter hobby has the added plus of making your kitchen warmer when you get your oven going. Not to mention the amazing smell of baked goods. Try your hand at banana bread, or even a pumpkin pie. If you don't trust your skills in the kitchen - well you can always just buy the pre-measured cake mix.

Photography

Whether it's winter sun or it snows, the winter weather can bring some beautifully picturesque backdrops to a place near you. Why not grab your camera and capture some dreamy winterscapes.

Unlock Your Best Look: The Life-Changing Benefits of Knowing Your Color Season

I have recently discovered the amazing benefits of knowing my personal colour season. Knowing your colour season is like having a personalized roadmap to aesthetic harmony. It's a concept rooted in colour theory that identifies which hues best complement your skin tone, hair, and eye color. The benefits of this knowledge extend far beyond fashion; it can enhance your overall appearance, boost your confidence, and even influence how others perceive you. When you wear colors that naturally suit you, your best features are accentuated, making you look more vibrant, healthy, and radiant.

It's not just about clothes, this wisdom can be applied to makeup, accessories, and even home decor. Understanding your color season simplifies decision-making, whether you're shopping for a new wardrobe or redecorating a room. It's like having a curated palette at your fingertips, designed to bring out the very best in you. In a world overflowing with endless colour choices, knowing your colour season is a valuable tool for creating a cohesive and flattering personal style.

Finding Creative Flow

Wednesday, 24 August 2022

I feel I've had a kind of creative revival of late. Recent trips to the beach and time in the ocean have helped  me feel in flow. After letting go of making anything at all, I can see that there's still so many creative dreams I want to realize. Feeling totally disillusioned with social media and having taken a very long break from it, I want to just share the things that bring me joy.

Getting back into reading and knitting and drawing has helped me understand that for me at least, to produce quality content, I need to fill my cup with real world screen free experiences. It's in these soothing pastimes that creative sparks fly and I feel compelled to then shoot photos and write - to create.

Watch this space for some fresh lifestyle content.

When I think about what really lights me up, it's being creative. All the doubts I've had about sharing my content have diminished, as I have realized for the most part, it doesn't need to be anything more than a creative outlet. I don't need to put so much pressure on myself. I love writing, photography and having an space for sharing my interests and inspiration. As an artist, my respect for anyone who takes the time to produce anything creative has soared in recent times. I've come to appreciate what it really takes to birth ideas into something tangible.

It's been very refreshing to take a long break from pursuing content creation to just live life and enjoy the little things without feeling pressure to document every little thing. I do feel in the last two years I've grown into a sense of just being. There is however joy in documenting life's little moments. Whether it's sharing a product I love, or taking a picture of my coffee, I enjoy it so why not? While I tend to feel I'm not as interested in Instagram anymore, it remains an important platform so I want to create a content calendar and upload daily content.

The main thing is that no matter what you're doing, not to stop. Consistency is key and when you're being creative that's so important. Just create, you learn so much more from the process even though we put so much emphasis on the end product. So here's to being creative, following your intuition and doing what you love. You don't know where it might take you.
